Statement

The modern world increasingly forces people to conform to a standard, be it social, political, or physical.  As a result, individuals are reduced to being identified as anything other than that which makes them an individual - be it gender, race, orientation, etc.

At a fundamental level, all people are the same.  The same natural elements gather to make the same proteins that constitute the cells that make up tissues, which in turn make up organs and then the systems that constitute a living organism.  All of these cells, tissues, organs, and systems must conform to their own sets of parameters in order to facilitate the existence of the living being.

This sameness, however, exists only in the physical structure and function.  Each cell in the body, including those that comprise blood, is unique to that organism, which in turn is a unique living being.

Each blood slide is presented as a formal portrait of the individual who donated that blood.  The behavior of the blood under the force of the microscope slide reflects its donor, thereby giving us an aesthetic link from him or her and what they possess that is common to everyone.
